Lotions keep your skin moisturized on a daily basis. Consumer Reports perform a series of test on dozen of lotions to find which moisturize your skin the best. A spa can moisture and rejuvenate you through its treatment but a lotion could do an equally good job.
Consumer Reports ShopSmart Magazine checked out 14 moisturizing body lotions like Aveeno, Vaseline and Jergens. This includes store brand lotions like CVS, Walmart, Walgreens and Target. The lotions were tested on 26 women to see how well they moisturized their skin throughout the day. The testing was done inside humidity-controlled chamber. Testers used an instrument to measure the moisture level. Each panelist's skin was tested before applying the moisturizer, after applying the moisturizer at intervals of two hours, five hours and 24 hours.
The least moisturizing lotion was Up & Up Extra Healing moisturizer from Target. The test also included evaluation of feel and aroma of each lotion. Some lotions were thin and others waxy. Some lotions even smelt of plastic.
Cetaphil was tested as one of the most moisturizing lotion. This aroma-free lotion costs about $10. Walmart's Equate costing $4 less than Cetaphil was tested equally good lotion. Suave's Advanced Therapy moisturizer was another good lotion that perfomed well for severely dry skin. This pleasant orange-blossom aroma lotion costs around $3.

A chat was hosted by dermatologist Dr Aparna Santhanam to deal with skin care problems. Some of the common skin care problems are stretchmarks, freckles, dark spots, acne, dry and oily skin conditions.
Stretch marks are a skin condition which appear because of a break in elastin fibres. Good moisturising is the best remedy for this type of skin care. Natural ingredients like coconut oil and aloe vera etc. Vitamin E containing creams also help reduce stretch marks.
Unprotected sun exposure causes freckles and dark spots. Ingredients such as Arbutin. kojic acid and niacinamode as well as natural ingredients like bearberry extracts are the skin care remedies for freckles and dark spots.
The best skin care remedy for oily skin is the use of face wash with glycolic or salicylic acid twice daily. Avoid moisturisers, excessively cleansing the face. Opt for a light water based moisturiser. Dry skin care is done by moisturising the skin regularly. Oil the skin with coconut oil 15 to 20 mins before bath, take bath with a mild glycerine soap and immediately moisturise with a naturally based moisturiser. Skin care for acne is done by treating the skin with antibiotics, retinoids, benzoyl peroxide. Consult a skin specialist in case of acne problems.
